Summer Camps/Off School

When school is out for the summer or just for breaks during the school year, the Davis Family YMCA has all the activities you'll need to keep your child engaged and entertained while you work or go about your duties. Summer camps and Off School days offer swimming, crafts, gym games, field trips, speakers and much more; for every age group.

Summer Camps 2013

Our Summer Camps are made up of three different camps: Camp Neehi (ages 3-5), Camp Curiosity (ages 6-11) and Day Camp (ages 6-13).

**NEW FOR 2013**
We are offering Day Camp in Austintown!

Camp will be held in the Austintown Middle School for 6 weeks (June 10 through July 19).

Campers can sign up by the week or by individual days. Trips will be the same as Day Camp at the Davis Family Y. Mondays we will transport campers to the Y to swim. All required paperwork listed under Camp Handbooks & Forms (see below) MUST be completed and turned in by the Camper's FIRST day of camp.

Day Camp FAQs

  • What does my child need to bring each day?
    • Come to camp with sunscreen on, wearing their bathing suit under their clothes.
    • They should pack a bag with a change of clothes (appropriate for playing outdoors, crafts, sports and water games). ALL OF WHICH should have their names clearly written on each item.
    • They should pack a lunch, drinks (re-fillable water bottles work best) and a snack with their names on their lunchboxes.
    • Camp shirts must be worn each Trip Day.

You will be notified via our weekly Parent Letters if there is anything additional you might need to pack, or if they do not need certain items. Parent Letters can be picked up the 1st day they attend each week, or downloaded here.

  • Is there anything my child is NOT allowed to bring to Camp?
  • Yes! The following items are prohibited from Camp:

    • Anything of great value (sentimental or otherwise); handheld video games, computers, phones, jewelry, trading cards, or anything they're afraid to lose or break.
    • Clothing with inappropriate logos, slogans, words, etc.
    • Swim aides, we'll provide approved swim aides if needed.
    • Any type of illegal substances.
    • Anything deemed inappropriate by the Director, Coordinator and/or counselors.
    • A furrowed brow - SMILES only!
  • Do I have to pay for the entire summer up front?
  • Nope! We ask you to register your child by the Friday before the week they wish to attend at the latest. This gives us an opportunity to do rosters and know how many counselors we might need over the weekend for the following week.

  • When is the Registration Fee due and why do I have to pay it?
  • The Registration Fee is due prior to registering for Camp. This fee goes towards Day Camp shirts, arts & crafts supplies, sports supplies and all materials needed for Day Camp to run effectively by giving each camper a wide variety of options each day.

  • How can I register my child?
  • You can register in person at the Front Desk (at either the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman, or at the Youngstown Central YMCA in Youngstown) or on-line. Please remember, pick-up and drop-offs will ONLY be at the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman unless otherwise noted in your weekly Parent Letter.

  • What kind of paperwork will I have to fill out?
  • Each camper must have their emergency medical packets filled out and turned in BEFORE they attend Camp. They may be turned in the morning of their 1st day at Camp at the latest.

  • Who are your counselors for Day Camp, what kind of training is entailed?
  • All of our Day Camp Counselors are trained and certified in CPR, 1st Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention. They also go through a 10 hour training prior to camp involving lectures and practical situations in which they may be confronted during Camp. All of the counselors have an interest in working with children, and many of them will be returning with experience from previous years.

  • Why do you have one rate for all of the field trips regarding trip fees?
  • When we add a trip fee to a field trip we take into consideration bus rentals, bus driver fees and counselor / staffing when there's a late return planned. The $30 trip fee is the mean of the expenditures after averaging the above costs from previous years.

  • Do I have to sign up for Tuesday / Thursday if I want my child to attend only 2 days a week, or Monday / Wednesday / Friday if I want my child to attend only 3 days a week?
  • No! You can register by day. With this daily rate you can register one day at a time, but you must register your child for at least 2 days in order for them to attend the field trip.

  • Am I (the parent / guardian) allowed to attend trips, or spend the day at Camp with my child?
  • Yes! We love when parents come on trips and gets involved with camp days! We ask all chaperones and guests to scan their license through the Sexual Offenders Registry database (at the Front Desk) before ANYONE is able to attend camp with the kids. Afterwards parents / guardians will be with their child along with their child's group assisting the counselors whenever possible. For trips involving a trip fee, parents are more than welcome to attend the trip but will have to pay their own way into the facility we're attending.
