Welcome to the page that
will explain about YMCA Invitationals. The Northeastern part of
Ohio and also Western PA are loaded with YMCA invitational
meets. If you have not had your fill of swim meets from our dual
meet schedule, then why not try out some YMCA Invitationals?
Below is basic information you will need to know about signing
up for and attending a YMCA invitational.
- Before reading on
about this topic, it is important to know that your first
responsibility as a Y-Neptune swimmer is to your Y-Neptune
team. If a Y-Neptunes’ swim meet (dual meet, Divisionals,
Leagues, or Zones) is taking place on the same day as a YMCA
invitational meet, you must attend the Y-Neptunes’ swim team
event to support your Neptune team.
- Know most northeast
Ohio Y invitational swim meets are held on “off weekends”
(when we do not have a dual meet, or Divisionals, Leagues or
Zones scheduled) so usually there is not a conflict. But
there can be a conflict with meets held in PA. For example,
there is a Y invitational in PA on October 20 – the same
date as our first home dual meet of the season. As a Neptune
swimmer you must attend our dual meet. Know that our YMCA
dual meets are held on Saturdays. Divisionals is held on
either the first Saturday or Sunday in February (this is
a mandatory meet for all Y-Neptunes), and Leagues is
always held on the first Saturday in March. Because of this
most YMCA Invitationals are held on Sundays (if a dual meet
is scheduled for Saturday) or as stated above, on our “off
weekends” when we do not have a dual meet scheduled.
- There are entry
fees for Y-Invitationals Divisionals, Leagues and Zones.
There are no entry fees to participate in Y-Neptune dual
meets.
- We have a parent
volunteer, Karla Cabrera, who will take your entries and
fees and enter you in any YMCA invitational meet you wish to
attend that she posts. She will also be updating this page
with information on what meets are available and when
entries and fees are due to her. This information will also
be posted on our Neptune Info Board in the Youth Lobby of
the downtown YMCA.
- At this time,
Y-Neptune coaches are not required to attend YMCA
invitational meets. However, if a sizeable group decides to
attend a meet (15 or more swimmers) then a coach will try to
make arrangements to attend as well.
- Why go to a YMCA
invitational? You choose what events you swim and awards
are given; often medals, trophies and ribbons, to those who
place. You get to see new places and pools. And you get to
compete against swimmers you might not see until Divisionals
or Leagues.
