Week of January 2, 2006

Happy New Year Everyone!  Hope you enjoyed ringing in the New Year and Ohio State’s win (sorry Steph).  Now it’s back to swimming!

Parents’ Meeting – Our next Parents’ Meeting will be tomorrow, Wednesday, January 4 at 6:30 p.m.  We will be discussing our fundraising event – the Y-Neptune Presidential Invitational, Divisionals, Leagues and Zones.  Please try to attend!

Next meet news – Our next dual meet is this Saturday, January 7 at Tuscawaras.  The address for the pool is 600 Monroe, Dover, Ohio 44622. Remember – you must have swum in 3 YMCA dual meets in order to be able to compete at Divisionals, Leagues or Zones.  If you have only been in one meet so far, you MUST swim at this upcoming meet and our last home meet against Trumbull, January 21 in order to go to Divisionals!

Speaking of Divisionals – Divisionals this year will be held on Saturday, February 4 at Southeast’s pool, which is located on 460 Northfield Rd., Bedford Heights, Ohio. Mark your calendars now and plan to be there. This is our Championship meet and we need everyone to attend in order to place well.

Looking ahead – Remember -Sunday, February 19, 2006 is the date of our team’s major fund-raising event - the Y-Neptunes’ Presidential Invitational! All Neptune swimmers should swim at this meet.  It is an invitational, meaning there are entry fees, but you choose what you swim!   Know that all families are required to participate in running this meet, even if your child decides not to swim.  This is our only fundraiser during the season and we need everyone there to help make it a success.  If you have any questions about this, please contact Tom Nasci at 330-759-0223 or Melanie Emerson at 330-427-2946.  Also, we are encouraging everyone to place or get one ad for our meet program. Promote your business, surprise your swimmer with some encouragement in print, thank someone in a big way – place an ad!

Some thoughts from Coach Sue – I’ve written up a page (it is in your mailbox) discussing what I expect from the swimmers for the remainder of the season.  I also expect mailboxes to be cleaned out every time you come to practice.  The newsletter, the Neptunes’ Info Board and our website www.y-neptunes.com are the three ways I can communicate with the team, and thank you to those who do read these. For everyone else, we, as a team, cannot call 90 families every time information needs to be dispersed. It is very frustrating having swimmers or parents say to me that they did not know that “this” was happening, or “that” was taking place, when usually that information was available to them in more than one place.  The only reason someone would be uniformed is that they do not have a computer or they haven not been to practice. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for everyone to stay informed.  Please take advantage of the fact that our team has such a great communication system!

Practice Cancellation – If we cancel practice due to the weather, we will do so by 3:00 p.m. that day. Check your local TV stations’ (WKBN, WFMJ and WYTV) to see if we have cancelled practice. We will ask that it be included in the cancellation strip that runs across the bottom of the screen.  You can also call the Y after 3:00 p.m., but check your TV first.
