Week of September 11, 2006
Welcome everyone to the 2006-2007 Youngstown Y-Neptunes Swim Season! We have a very exciting year ahead, so stay informed by reading this weekly newsletter. Remember, all newsletters (as well as other info) can also be found on-line at www.y-neptunes.com
Practice Begins – Our first day of practice on Monday, September 11 was fantastic. Lots of new faces; lots of returning swimmers… it was great to see everyone. Keep coming to practice so you have an awesome season!!
Coaching Staff – Coach Sue (also your friendly newsletter writer) and Coach Stacy are back again this year, and we are joined by Kristin Kuntzman who is actually coming back to the Neptunes where she swam competitively for many years. Coach Kristin also has served as co-head coach of the Alliance Y-Flyers and has acted as an assistant coach for Poland Swim Club for the past two year. We are happy to have her on-board!
Fees and Forms – Those attending practice MUST have completed and turned in a medical release form before entering the water! Also, those participating at practice must have at least paid the $50 Trial Period fee. If you decide to stay with the team after the Trial Period ends, then the remainder of your swim team dues and your paid Y membership will be due no later than Thurdsay, October 5. Please turn in your forms and pay your fees at the front desk.
Speaking of October 5… this is our Team Suit Try-On day. Knabes, our swim suit vendor, will be in the Youth Lobby, (by the Neptune Info Board) at 5:00 p.m. on that Thursday. All male suits will be available to try-on and purchase that day. Female suits sizes 22-30 will not be available to buy and take home this evening, but you will have the opportunity to try-on a suit for size, order the size you want and the suits should ship to us by October 14. Female suits sizes 32 and up will be available to buy. Remember – team suits are not mandatory, but goggles are and these, as well as caps and practice suits will also be available for purchase this evening. Also, if you invest in a team suit, I suggest that you save it for our swim meets (so it stays colorful and competition “tight”) and buy a practice suit, or use an old one you already have, for practice. Another also – I highly recommend that each swimmer has a pair of training fins, which will be available to buy October 5. We use fins in practice at least twice a week, if not more. Again, they are not mandatory, but it would help if everyone had a pair so practices run smoothly. We will also be offering personalized latex swim caps for sale. If you would like caps, you can email me at suemellish@gmail.com and I will put your name on the order list. We will then place our cap order on October 5. Cost is $14 for two latex caps with the Neptune Logo on the side and your last name. Payment for caps are not due until they come in. Again, if you buy these caps, save them for meets and buy another cap to wear at practice.
Y Invitationals – There are a couple Y Invitationals coming up with the meet at Westminster College being held October 14. If you want to attend an invitational, you must fill out a Meet Entry Form, complete with events and event numbers you wish to swim, the times you want me to enter and a check made out to Sue Mellish in the amount to cover your entry fees PLUS an additional $5 per family Invitational Fee that is charged for taking care of your entries. If more than 10 swimmers sign up to attend an invitational, then a coach will attend as well. Be sure to get your entries into me by the date I wrote on the form on the board. If you want to go to Westminster, I need your entries NOW! Remember – you swim your age as of 12-01-06.
