Neptune News
Week of November 6, 2006
Whew! Was that a marathon of a meet or what?! No, we did not win the meet, but we held our own in many events. Cuyahoga is a very tough team and this is the first time we have ever swum them in a dual meet situation. They are in a different division than us, and we usually do not see any of their swimmers until Leagues. I was extremely proud of everyone; from the way you adjusted to not having cards for every event, to cheering for your teammates and for swimming your best. A special “pat on the back” to Kelly Kozicky for not only doing the 200 free, but completing all of her flip turns. Kudos also goes out to Taylor Sommers for taking on the 100 fly. Congratulations, Tom Boniface on swimming a Zone time in the 50 back as lead off for the 15-18 Boys Medley Relay. He followed that up with a Zone time in the 15-18 Boys 50 Free. I learned a great deal at the meet. I know what you did right and what could use improvement. Get to practice these next two weeks so we are ready for our third meet of the season against Ridgewood (another strong team) on November 18.
Next meet news – Speaking of Ridgewood, since the Ohio State/Michigan game takes place on Saturday, November 18, the day of the meet, Ridgewood is starting the meet early in hopes that everyone can be home ready to cheer on the Buckeyes (hey, I can say that as I am an OSU alumni!). Our warm-ups will take place at 9:00 a.m. (yes, in the morning) on November 18 with the meet hopefully starting at 9:30-ish. So, no one better sign-off from this meet because of the game! For the address of Ridgewood, go to www.neoyswim.org and click on the meet location link. Their address is there so you can mapquest it for directions.
Speaking of Practices – Please look over the new practice schedule for the Neptunes. Much has stayed the same, but we have extended a couple practices for the older kids and we’ve added a new practice for the 9 & 10s on Thursdays. I really need everyone to come to their actual age group practices from here on out. You have seen how our team has grown, but we need to make space so we can practice purposefully. This new schedule is effective as of today and we will be running practices accordingly.
Thank you to all the parents for taking on the meet this past Saturday. Our concession stand was very successful. We now have Neptune tattoos (thanks to the McCarty family) to purchase. We were able to sell all of our remaining Neptune gear. The meet ran very smoothly taking into consideration the volume of swimmers we had to contend with! Thank you, thank you to everyone who volunteers to make these meets possible; from the people at the scorer’s and computer table, to the officials, timers, starters, runners, etc. You all obviously love your kids very, very much!! Swimmers – hug your parents today and say “Thank you!” They are the only reason the Neptune Swim Team is a reality!
Remember – come to practice prepared with your water bottle, fins and goggles. Go to the bathroom before coming on deck. Get there early and stretch before your warm-up. With so many swimmers, stop the blabbing and listen or you will be asked to leave. I’ve got goals for this team and it’s time to make them a reality! Go Neptunes!!
