Neptune News

Week of November 21, 2005

Great job to everyone who swam at Saturday’s meet against Wooster.  We won the meet earning 9 points to Wooster’s 2.  We also racked up 108 personal best times in the process!  Coach Jessie, Stacy, Pat and I were impressed with just how “good” everyone looked at this meet.  Let’s keep working hard and see just how fast we can go!

Practice Schedule – As was posted at the meet, we will only have practice on Monday and Tuesday this week.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving break, but come prepared to work off that turkey and pumpkin pie next Monday!

DVD Tuesday – This Tuesday, November 22, will be our last day to view the stroke DVDs.  If you would like to see stroke technique concerning butterfly or breaststroke, be in room 203 at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Looking ahead – Meets in December - So everyone can plan accordingly, this is how December should run.  We have our next meet at Lake West on Saturday, December 3.  Their address is Lake County West End Branch, 37100 Euclid Ave. Willoughby, Ohio 44094. Please sign-off by Monday, November 28 at the very latest so I can get the line-up written!  Next we have a home meet with North Canton on Saturday, December 17.  This is a really important meet, and I need everyone to attend!  North Canton has a huge team and fast swimmers.  There will be a great races at this meet which will give you that extra “push” in obtaining your best times, so don’t miss out – be there!

Looking ahead – Clinics in December – On the heels of his very successful turns clinic, Coach Stacy will again be offering two clinics in December.  The first clinic will be Friday, December 2.  This clinic will focus on starts.  There will be two times; 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Again, there will be 8 openings per session.  Please do not sign-up for the second session until the first one is filled.  The second clinic in December will be Friday, December 16.  The focus of that clinic will be announced next week.

Looking ahead- Party!! - On Monday, December 19 we will not have practice – but we will have our annual Neptune Christmas party.  We are doing something different this year.  We have reserved the auditorium, and we are asking that each family that attends bring either a covered dish, salad or dessert – we will determine who is to bring what as we get closer to the date. We are also asking that each family donate either a new pair of gloves, mittens, socks or a winter hat and we are going to decorate a Christmas tree for needy children in the Mahoning Valley.  So there will be open swim, tons of food and a bit of giving in the process – all which should make for a fun-filled event.

Looking ahead – Practice Changes.  Since Christmas falls on a Sunday, we will run the regular practice schedule (Mon. thru Thurs. at regular times), the week before Christmas. However, we will not have practice on Monday, December 26, but we will run practice at the regular times on Tues, Wed. and Thurs of that week.  With New Year’s Day being on Sunday, we will again cancel practice for Monday January 2 so you can recoup for all the holiday festivities.   Then the practice schedule will pick up again on Tuesday, January 3 – and we will have our next away meet that coming Saturday, January 7 at Tuscawaras. Whew!  Try to make it to as many practices as possible during these two weeks so we are still in top form for our meet at Tusc!

Divisionals – Somewhere I posted the date for Divisionals and it was wrong.  So disregard that date if you saw that!  Instead, know that Divisionals always takes place on the first Saturday or Sunday (I have not been told which day our meet will be, yet) in February, either the 4th or 5th.  This is our YMCA Championship Meet and if you swam in at least three of our seven dual meets, you qualify to attend this meet.  Please, please, please, get your three meets in – we have four left to swim, so there is no reason you can’t.  I hate to make anything mandatory – but attending Divisionals is mandatory as far as I am concerned.  This is where we truly represent our YMCA and I want everyone there so the other Y’s can see what a great group of swimmers make up the Y-Neptunes! Everyone needs to keep working hard, attending practice and focusing on swimming his or her best each and every time you hit the water as we prepare for this meet.  Please get your meets in and please plan now so you can attend Divisionals.
