Neptune News

Week of January 30, 2006

Welcome to the last newsletter of January 2006!  How is that possible? Still, this is the busiest time of the year for the Neptunes.  Read on so you are “in the know.”

Divisionals is this Saturday, February 4 at Bedford High School – also known as the Southeast YMCA - which is located on 460 Northfield Rd., Bedford Heights, Ohio.  I still have fee envelopes that have not been picked up for the following people – Arfaras, Brady, Brucoli, Dunkel, Gilkinson, Hurtuk, Houston, Joseph, Lilak, McEwan, Markovitch, Montalto, Strollo, and

Tofil.  Also, there are many fee envelopes that still need turned in.  Please get your entry Divisional fees paid by this Thursday to Coach Sue. Checks should be made out to “Y-Neptunes.” Remember - there are two meet sessions at Divisionals. The 8 & Unders, 13-14 and 15-18s swim in the morning.  Morning warm-ups are at 7:00 a.m. (!!) with the meet beginning at 8:00 a.m.  The afternoon session is when the 9-10 and 11-12 age groups swim with your warm-ups beginning no earlier than 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m.

Beyond Divisionals – After our meet this Saturday, everyone is to still come to practice on Monday and Tuesday.  I hope to post on Tuesday who has qualified for Leagues (which takes place Saturday, March 4).  A swimmer qualifies for Leagues by either a) placing first, second or third in their individual event or relay event at Divisionals or b) by having a fast enough final time swum at Divisionals.  The 8 & Under, 9 & 10 and 11 & 12 year old events qualify three heats of 8 swimmers i.e., 24 spots per event.  The 13 & 14 and 15-18 fill two heats of 8; or 16 spots per event.  There are three Divisions in our League, so automatically – 9 swimmers qualify (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places per Division, per event).  The meet directors of each of the three Divisional meets will get together Monday night (February 6th) and compare times to fill the events with the next fastest times swum at all the Divisional meets beyond the 9 automatic spots earned by placing in the top three spots per event.  I am then emailed the list of those who qualify to compete at Leagues, and I usually get this late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.  If you qualify for Leagues – Congratulations!  Keep coming to practice to prepare for Leagues.  If you do not qualify for Leagues, but are going to compete at our Presidential Invitational – which I hope pertains to everyone on the Neptunes! – continue coming to practice as well, so you can prepare for the Invitational to be held Sunday, February 19th at YSU.  If you do not qualify for Leagues and are not swimming in the Invitational, then you are done practicing for the season, but we will see you at our Neptunes Swim Banquet on Friday, March 10!

Zone/Invitational Meeting – There will be a meeting for parents of Zone qualifiers this Tuesday at 7 p.m.  We will discuss hotel reservations, Zone entry fees, when kids swim, Zone t-shirt and sweatshirt pre-orders, etc.  Come with any questions you might have.  We will also be finalizing what needs done for the Presidential Invitational.

Presidential Invitational – Things to remember 1. Enter! All entries and your fees are due to Coach Sue by Monday, February 6.  I am not entering anyone - you tell me what you want to swim! Make checks out to Y-Neptunes.  2.  Parents must sign-up to work.  3.  Pay your $10 concession fee.  4.  Place an ad!  Be sure to support your swimmers or promote your business in the Presidential Invitational program!

Swim Banquet – Our Neptune Swim Banquet is Friday, March 10.  Please sign-up on the sheet on the Neptunes Info Board to tell us if you are coming and how many in your family are planning to attend.  We need to give The Embassy a ballpark # so we have enough space.
