Neptune News
Week of January 16, 2006
Welcome to another week of Neptune Swimming! There’s lots going on – our last dual meet of the season, Divisional information, signing up to swim at the Presidential Invitational, etc. Read on to see what you need to know to be “in the know.”
Last dual meet news – We swim Trumbull this Saturday at our pool. Be here by noon to warm-up by 12:30; the meet starts at 1:15 p.m. Most of you will be swimming the events you will be swimming at Divisionals, with some exceptions. This is your chance to practice your events in a race situation. Really concentrate on good starts, turns and technique this Saturday and go for those personal best times! Parents – be sure to sign-up to bring food for the concessions. We have had many wonderful comments from visiting teams about the excellent food we serve and that is thanks to all of you!
Divisionals – What you will be swimming at Divisionals (Saturday, February 4 at Southeast – also known as Bedford High School) will be posted on Tuesday on the Neptune Info Board. I put you in events where I thought you would have the best chance of doing well and scoring points for the team. Also, be sure to check if you are in relays. Relays can change the day of the meet if someone gets sick or hurt, but know ahead of time if you might be in relays. Fees for this meet are $2 per individual event and $8 (or $2 per swimmer) per relay. Fee envelopes will be in your mailboxes by Wednesday. Please try to have your entry fees paid by this Saturday’s meet so we can have all the Divisional paperwork taken care of by next Monday.
**Know that there are two meet sessions at Divisionals. The 8 & Unders, 13-14 and 15-18s swim in the morning. Morning warm-ups are at 7:00 a.m. (!!) with the meet beginning at 8:00 a.m. The afternoon session is when the 9-10 and 11-12 age groups swim with your warm-ups beginning no earlier than 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m.
**Information about Divisionals is posted on the Neptune Info Board, but mainly everyone needs to know when they swim (as stated above), that they must wear shoes at all times when out of the water; they must dry off after their events before entering the gym and new this year – they are NOT permitting food in the gym. It does not say you are not permitted to bring your own food, just that all food must be consumed in the concession area in the hall. Also, we will be fined if our team area is trashed after the meet. Each session (a.m. and p.m.) swimmers MUST clean-up all of their trash before leaving the meet! And remember – no one ever leaves a meet without asking a coach if they are permitted to go! We’d hate to have to scratch a relay because someone forgot he or she was in one, or was needed as a replacement.
Presidential Invitational – Please get your Presidential Invitational entries written-up and turned into Coach Sue with your fees ASAP. Remember – you get to choose what you swim. Coach Sue will not automatically enter you as she does for dual meets. You must fill out an entry form and turn it in with the entry fees due to Coach Sue no later than February 10. Do not include relays with your entries. Coach Sue will make up relays based on who is coming and you will be billed for relay fees at the meet. Parents – remember – everyone works this meet, so sign-up for what job you would like to do. Also – remember to turn in your $10 concession stand fee so we can feed the masses! This is a great fund-raising event, but we need everyone’s help to make it a success! Thanks in advance.
Banquet News – Our banquet this year will be Friday, March 10 at The Embassy in Struthers. Please sign-up with the number of people who will be attending from your family on the sign-up sheet now posted on the Neptune Info Board. This way we will know what size room to reserve.
