Congratulations to all the District qualifiers who were such great representatives of our Neptune’s high school program. Their support for each other was outstanding! Congratulations also to Morgan McCarty for qualifying for the Ohio High School Athletic Association 2007 Girls Division II Swimming and Diving Championship in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.76.
Two weeks left to go before Leagues and everyone should be at practice (when Mother Nature cooperates) as often as possible. Those of you close to Zone times – get to practice and get to work! These next two weeks are your chance to prepare and get ready to swim some fantastic races!
League entry fee envelopes can be obtained from me, Coach Sue. If you have not received yours yet, see me and get your fees turned in ASAP.
Zone Qualifiers – If you did not pick up a Zone apparel form and you would like to pre-order t-shirt, hoodies, etc, see Coach Sue for these forms. Zone apparel can also be purchased at Zones. I will be announcing who will be on which Zone Relays March 4 after Leagues.
Last Chance Meets – Anyone wanting to try for Zone times should plan to attend North Canton’s Last Chance Invitational to be held at North Canton’s YMCA on Sunday, March 4. Be at their pool at 12:45; warm-ups are from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. and the meet starts at 1:40 p.m. Here is hoping that everyone will have achieved their Zone times at Leagues the day before, but for those who have not, and for those trying for Senior events, please attend this meet. I would like to have a nice size group of swimmers attend this meet and try for Zone times. The way this meet works is that you buy “event cards” for $1 (relays are $4) so be sure to have cash on hand. You fill in the event card with your name, the event, etc. I can help you with this. Then the meet will begin and run in the order of a regular meet. If you want to try the 100 IM, when the starter calls anyone wanting to swim a 100 IM to the blocks, you go down on deck, pick a lane (always swim in lane 2, 3, 4, or 5 – wait for another heat in order to get an inside lane). You will then race your event. There will be two timers in your lane and they will average your two times together and you will find out if you’ve achieved a Zone time. If you do not get the time you need, but you are very close, go back and buy another event card, fill it out, wait until you are rested enough and try the event when it is offered again. I would suggest that you attend this Last Chance Invitational if you are less than two seconds away from a Zone time. If you are not sure if you should attend, ask me.
Banquet information is in your mailboxes. Be sure to pick up this information! Also, keep looking for Chinese Auction items. If you already have your donation, give it to Melanie Emerson. By having the items ahead of time, she can then determine how much space to set aside for the auction at the banquet, and also have the auction set up at the banquet before the doors open. Thanks in advance for your generous donations!
