Happy Presidents’ Day! Well, everyone give yourselves a nice pat on the back for a great Presidential Invitational.  More than 480 swimmers swam, got fed, and many walked away with an award from our invitational held at YSU yesterday.  Thanks to all the parents that made this meet possible.  Truly, it was a team effort and there is no way it could have been a success without the help of our fantastic Neptune parents.  Thanks to those that ran the meet; thanks to those who ran the concession stand; thanks to those who worked the awards room; thanks to those who set-up and stayed to clean-up – our thanks could not possibly do justice to the work involved, but know that the Neptune coaches and swimmers truly appreciate everything that went into making this day a reality.

Congratulations are also in order to the following swimmers. To Morgan McCarty for making States in the 100 yard breaststroke.  I believe she was the only Youngstown area girl to qualify in an individual event.  Congratulations are also in order to the following swimmers who earned Zone times at their high school Sectionals, Districts or at our Presidential Invitational – Corey Burrelli, Senior 50 yard breaststroke; Ashley Emerson, Senior 50 yard backstroke; Tom Boniface, 15-18 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke, and Steph Case, 13-14 100 yard butterfly.  Congrats also go out to Brian Cowles for earning a membership in the Neptunes’ “Minute Club” for his 100 yard freestyle swim at YSU yesterday.

Fees are due – All Divisional and Presidential fees are now past due.  Get these to me ASAP.  League fees are now due and were in your mailboxes last week.  I pulled the envelopes and will be personally handing them out, so if you did not get yours from your mailbox, see Coach Sue.

Leagues is Saturday, March 4 at the University of Akron.  Also know that two League relays have been cancelled – the 8 & Under Girls B Medley Relay (the Girls 8 & Under B Free Relay is still a go – thanks Delaney!) and the 13-14 Boys B Free Relay.  Anyone in those relays should see Coach Sue if you have questions about this.  Also, the League Qualifiers have been posted on the Neptune Info Board for more than 2 weeks now.  I need everyone to look at that list for your name.  I cannot call everyone to tell let you know you have qualified.  Checking is up to you.  If you see your name, put a “star” by it so I know, that you know, you made it to Leagues and that you will be attending.  Everyone who qualifies for Leagues is committed to attend!!  Also,

Everyone attending Leagues will need to print off a parking pass for the University of Akron.  This way your car will not get ticketed or towed.  Go to www.neoyswim.org - click on the League information link – click on the YMCA League link and then click on the Parking Pass link to print off your pass.  I will also need workers for this meet and have assigned the following people to work. If it feels like you always seem to end up working at these later meets, just know that such assignments are the pay-off for your swimmer doing so well!! : )  If you absolutely cannot do this, let me know.

AM Session – Official – Henson; Timers – Cowles, Cabrera, Tofil, Crowd Control – Emerson, Guyer, Cogley, Velasquez

PM Session – Official – Boniface;  Timers – Dawson, Weiss, Markovitch (Jordyn);  Crowd Control – Montalto, Kozicky

Practice times – Practice times will stay the same for this week.  If we see that no one is really coming to the 4:25 to 5:25 practice time, we might cancel this for next week (the week of February 27), but I will tell those who attend that practice if it is cancelled by this Thursday.  I will also tell the front desk of the Y if the 4:25 to 5:25 practice is cancelled for next week, and I will post it on the Neptunes’ Info Board and website by Thursday of this week.  The only swimmers who should be attending practice now are those who qualified for Leagues or Zones (or if you signed up to swim at the Tuscawaras Invitational on February 26).  For everyone else, your season is done for now and we will see you at the Neptunes Banquet on Friday, March 10 at the Embassy.

Banquet News – Be sure to buy your banquet tickets!  The day is fast approaching where we will gather together to celebrate our fantastic swim season at our Neptunes Banquet, Friday March 10 at the Embassy.  Also, do not forget to pick-up something to donate for our fun-filled Chinese Auction that runs during the banquet.  We ask that each family donate one item to auction off.  If you already have your item(s), give these to Coach Sue or Melanie Emerson so we can prepare for the auction.

Swimmers – The following applies to everyone – come to practice ready to swim.  We will be working you hard for the next two weeks in preparation for Leagues (and for those attending Zones, the next four week). This is when we coaches get very, very picky.  Key words to remember – streamline (always do it); breathing in or out of your turns (never do it); flip turns (always) be on time for your practices (always)– you get the idea.  This is crunch time and we will be expecting a lot.  Come to practice having gone to the bathroom and with water bottle in hand.  Do not ask to leave practice unless it is an emergency.  You have worked hard all season to get to this point and we want to finish strong.  Our goal – seeing you turn in season best times.  Your goal – feeling you did everything you could do to prepare to perform your best.  Working together, let’s see just how well we can do!
