Now that we have had a taste of winter, a reminder of what to do if you think practice might be cancelled. If the weather is bad, look first to your TV. If I am going to cancel practice, I will do so by 3:00 p.m. I will call all three local news channels, 21 - WFMJ, 27 - WKBN and 33- WYTV. They will then run it along with other closings across the bottom of the TV screen. I will also call the Y, but do not call them before 3:30 p.m. so I have a chance to get them the information. Do not rely on the website, because I can not always get to our webmaster so he can post this.
This week’s meet is a home meet against Green. Be at our pool by 11:45 a.m. to warm-up at 12:15. Parents – remember to sign-up to work and to say what item you can donate for the concession stand. I believe Green has about 70 kids this year, so it should be a good meet.
Swim Caps – All personalized swim caps should be picked up this week. They are $14 per pair of caps. Make checks out to “Y-Neptunes.” We also ordered some regular Neptunes caps which will be available for sale at the meet this Saturday for $5 each.
Holiday Practice Times – We will be having practice at the regular times on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Thursday, December 21 will be our Christmas Dessert Party from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Be sure to sign-up to say what you will be bringing for the party. There will be open swim times and organized games. Hope to see everyone there! There will be no practice on December 25 – of course, but regular practice times will hold for the remainder of Christmas week. Likewise, there will be no practice on New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1, 2007), but practices will take place as usual the remainder of that week as well with our next swim meet taking place Saturday, January 6 at Ashland.
Speaking of Practices – High school swimmers – Something to think about. If you are a high school swimmer who does not leave the Neptunes to practice with their team, then consider this.; the high schoolers you will compete against in February at Sectionals are required by their high school coaches to practice Monday through Friday and on Saturday, as well as do dry land work, at least three times a week. During Christmas break, I believe they swim twice a day (morning and afternoon) at least three days a week, as well. Their high school coaches are not concerned if they other non-swimming obligations or extra-curricular activities; they must be at their scheduled dry land or swim practices. Are you working as hard? I can’t make your attendance mandatory; but maybe you should. You have the opportunities – morning swim hours; Monday and Wednesday dry land; Monday through Friday practices. You times will reflect your commitment. The opportunities are here. Take advantage of them!
