Neptune News
Week of October 9, 2006
The season begins!!! Now that the trial period is over, we will be getting serious about practices. Be sure to bring a water bottle with you and come prepared to learn and work!
Team Fees and Y-Membership Dues must be paid at this time in order to participate in Neptune practices. I can not put you on the official Neptune roster (which I must turn in at the North East Ohio YMCA League meeting this Saturday) unless ALL fees (both team fees and Y-membership dues) have been paid. You may NOT swim in our first meet Saturday, October 21 if your name is not on the roster. Please, finalize all this so I know who to include in my first meet line-up!
Time Trials will take place today, Monday October 9. Come to your actual age group practice time, if possible. Every swimmer will be given an index card with his or her name on it. Give your card to the timer (parent volunteers – please come to help and bring a stopwatch if you have one!) in a lane. Tell your timer what event you are swimming – example, the 50 freestyle. The timer will write the event on your card and will record your time on your card when you finish. The timer will keep your card and when you are ready to swim again, just go back to that same lane, tell the timer your name and he or she will pull up your card and you’ll be ready to swim your next event. Everyone will first do a 50 of freestyle (8 & Unders – a 25 of freestyle). Once everyone has swum free, then you can choose what other stroke you would like to swim. You will then do a 50 of that stroke. If time permits, you may swim another event, but I need to have at least this much information to make up the line-up for our first meet. Again, if you miss time trials, we will time those who missed on Thursday.
First meet news – Our first meet is Saturday, October 21 at home against Ashtabula. If you can NOT attend this meet, you must write your name on the Meet Sign-Off sheet posted on the Neptune Info Board by Thursday. I will be writing the line-up over the weekend and I need to know by this Thursday if you will NOT be attending this meet.
Workers for our first meet – Please sign up on the Workers sheet on the Neptune Info Board to work our first home meet. We need everyone’s help to make this a successful event. Also remember to sign-up to donate a food item to our concession stand. We always have a fantastic concession stand thanks to the generosity of our Neptune families! Thanks in advance!
New Score Board – Hopefully, by the time you read this, our new score board will be in place in the deep pool. Our score board is the result of all the hard fundraising efforts by our Neptune families from supporting the concession stand at home meets, and the Presidential Invitational to donations given for the Chinese Auction held during our banquet. The score board will be a fantastic asset to our program! Everyone reach your hand across your shoulder and give yourself a “pat on the back” for making this happen!
