Neptune News

Week of October 3, 2005

Welcome to the last week of Pre-Swim!  Everyone who is entering the water this week must have paid for pre-swim.  We still have a few people who need to pay.  Please do so. I do not want to have to tell you to sit out of the practice! Also, I need medical forms!

I need a BIG favor – If you know that you will NOT be joining the Neptunes after the pre-swim ends this week, would you please tell me so I can take your name off the Neptune’s roster?  This way the roster is updated; I do not have to worry when I do not see you at practice, and I do not need to phone saying you must pay for your team dues and membership to the Y.  Thanks!

Parents’ Meeting – Our first Parents’ Meeting is this Wednesday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Lobby.  We will be discussing many, many things.  Be sure to come with your ideas and concerns.  Hopefully we will also be confirming the team suit order day.

Practice Times – In the first newsletter, I stated that we would open up the 4:25 to 5:25 p.m. practice time to all 10 & Unders.  Please note that if you are 10 & Under and cannot come to practice at that time - that is OKAY!  Come when you can. We are just trying to open up the second practice time so it is not as crowded.  Thanks!

USA Swimming – If you were planning to join USA swimming so you can attend USA meets as a Y-Neptune, please get your membership information to Melanie Emerson by this Wednesday.  See her at the Parent’s Meeting!  Along the same lines… if you are planning to participate in any of the posted USA meets, entry deadlines are coming fast.  Get those to Melanie as well!

Swimposium – Coach Jessie and I just returned from the Mid-West Swimposium held in Columbus, Ohio this weekend and we came away with some fantastic ideas.  We also got to see and tour the new Ohio State University Natatorium.  WOW!  What a mind-blowing place.  Rumor has it that Zones will be there in 2007. Make it a goal now to be there so you can experience that facility.

YMCA Invitationals – I will be putting up several YMCA Invitationals next week.  Be sure to check the Neptune Info Board to see if you would like to participate and what the deadlines are to enter.

Dryland Practice – We will be putting together a dryland exercise program by next week that will benefit all swimmers with added exercises for those 12 and older.  We plan on having two demonstration days, where the coaches will show you what to do.  Then it will be up to you to do these exercises at home or come in 20 minutes early for practice and do these on your own, with possibly an older swimmer overseeing everyone.  Stretching is so very important!  We will give you instructions on what you should do on a daily basis, whether you swim that day or not.  Let’s prevent injuries and get stronger!
