Congratulations Neptunes on your first win! We had an awesome meet on Saturday with many swimmers taking on events for the first time. It can be hard to be that 9 year old that suddenly has to swim 50s or that 13 year old that must now do 100s. Kudos to everyone who took on the challenge of swimming a new event. Special nods go out to 9-year-old Beth Zeno (who thought she was still swimming as an 8-year-old). She not only did her first 50 free in competition, but tackled the 50 back as well. Great job to all the kids who swam the 500 – and no one even complained! (at least to me directly!) Also, thanks to Jake Duda for swimming the first and last leg of his 9-10 free relay so his other teammates would have the fun of doing a relay. I saw swimmers cheering for each other; I saw swimmers saying “Good Job” and shaking hands with each other and the swimmers from Green. Again, awesome job everyone! And of course, thanks to our Neptune parents. We have the best, most organized and talented parent group in the League!
Zone Qualifiers – In case you didn’t know – we had two individual swimmers and two relays qualify for Zones at Saturday’s meet. Both Michael Henson and Tanner Knight have earned a trip to Zones in the 13-14 boys’ 50-yard freestyle event. The 13-14 boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay also qualified as did the Senior girls’ 200-yard medley relay! Remember – where Zone relays are concerned, the relay has qualified to attend. Which swimmers will make up that relay will be determined at the end of the season based, first on times, and also attendance and attitude will be taken into consideration. I have a flyer posted on this topic on the Neptunes Info Board. Be sure to read it so everyone understands how this works. Great job Zone qualifiers!
Party Time!! – We will be having a “Get to Know Your Team Day” this Wednesday, October 26! On this day we will be taking team pictures, watching stroke DVDs, meeting all the families and eating pizza. Picture envelopes will be in your mailboxes either Monday or Tuesday. Be at the Y for individual pictures beginning at 6:00 p.m. (There will be no 4:25 to 5:25 p.m. practice this day). We will also be showing our new stroke DVDs in the Youth Lobby while people are having their pictures taken. We will then take the team picture at about 7:00 p.m. with pizza in the Youth Lobby following pictures! We are also asking that families bring cookies or other snacks to share if they can. Be sure to attend this very fun, friendly, and informative evening.
Swim Clinics – We hope to start swim clinics in November; actually the second and fourth Fridays in November. Coach Stacy will be finalizing the schedule this week.
Next Meet News – Our next meet is Saturday, November 5 at Mansfield. If you cannot attend this meet, please sign-off on the Neptune Meet Sign-Off sheet on the Neptunes Info Board! Thanks!
