Week of November 7, 2005

Thanks to everyone who attended the Mansfield meet on Saturday.  It was a really long road trip, but we came out on top by earning 7 points to Mansfield’s 4 points.  Congratulations to the 13 & 14 Boys 200 yard Medley Relay for achieving a Zone time. And a round of applause for both the 11 & 12 Girls Free and Medley Relays for two fantastic races!  While we won the meet, Coach Jessie and I saw many areas that we need to work on in practice.  It’s time to get serious.  Come to practice prepared to listen, follow directions and work hard so you can achieve your goals for this season.

DVD Night – Starting this Tuesday, November 8, we will be showing our swim DVD’s in the auditorium (where we took the team picture) from 6 to 6:45 p.m.  We will do this for the next four Tuesdays (November 8, 15, 22 and 29).  If you cannot sit still and watch the DVD, please do not come.  If you do not sit still and listen while the DVD is being shown, you will be told to leave.  Swimmers 8 & Under really do not need to attend these sessions as much of what is on the DVDs deals with more advanced concepts. All other ages should attend!

Swim Clinic – Coach Stacy will be holding a clinic this Friday, November 11.  He will be working on turns.  There will be two 45-minute sessions.  Session One goes from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.; Session Two is from 7:15 to 8:00 p.m.  There will be eight openings per session. You MUST sign-up to attend these clinics.  The sign-up sheet is on the Neptune Info Board. Session One MUST be filled before anyone can sign-up for Session Two.  If you have questions see Coach Stacy at practice this Wednesday or Thursday.

Fins – If you ordered fins or still need fins, see Coach Sue.

To the Swimmers - Practice Update – Thanks to everyone who has been attending practice.  Now that the other fall sports are done, I hope to see everyone on a regular basis. Your times at a meet, or how you feel after a race are directly related to the amount of time you’ve put into preparing for that race.  If you want to do well, get to practice. Also, we have been having some issues about talking during practice.  That will stop, now.  When a coach starts talking, your lips are to be pressed together.  I don’t care if you are in the middle of a conversation with your best friend – Zip It!  I am going to start removing swimmers from practice and you will not be permitted to get back in. I have too many swimmers in the water to mess around with those who are not there to practice.  Talk in the locker room, or before or after practice.  Once you hit the pool deck, you are on the coaches’ time and we are selfish. It is too exhausting talking over other people and we will no longer do it, so be prepared to leave if you can’t follow this one, simple rule. This also applies to asking questions.  Don’t.  You have been in practice long enough.  You know how it works.  If you are asking a question, usually you had to because you were not listening or you were talking when directions were being given.  If you miss something, ask someone in your lane. I will only say what you are to do once, so listen up.  The only reason Coach Jessie, Stacy, Pat and I come down to the YMCA is to help you become the best swimmer you can be.  Now it is up to you to do the same.
