Neptune News

Week of November 13, 2006

The new practice times seem to be making it so there is a bit more room in the pool, and that’s great.  If anyone has any concerns about the new practice schedule, please see, email or call me and we’ll work it out.  Also please note, there was a typo on the new schedule that was on the back of your newsletter last week. The 11 & 12 practice time for Thursday is 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The schedule posted on www.y-neptunes.com is correct.

Also, please make use of the Friday night practice time.  Coach Kristen and Coach Jeff are there ready to go; whenever possible – you should be too!

Third meet news – Our third meet is this Saturday, November 18 at the Ridgewood YMCA.  Due to the highly anticipated match-up of Ohio State and Michigan, Ridgewood has moved up the meet’s start time considerably.  Be at their pool no later than 8:45 a.m. as we warm-up at 9:00 a.m.  The meet will start at 9:30 a.m. and we hope to be done ASAP.  Ridgewood’s YMCA’s address is 6840 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio 44129.
Phone: (440) 842-5200.  On their Y’s website they give directions as - From Interstate 480; Take the Ridge Road Exit; Go south on Ridge Road. The YMCA is on the right side of the street. You can also plug their address into www.mapquest.com and get directions from your house. I have purposely not put many of you in exhibition events in order to move the meet along.  No one can use the excuse they have to stay home because they do not want to miss the game! We all plan to be home to cheer on Ohio State!

About Practices – I am glad you now have more room in the pool during practice.  It was a bit chaotic there for awhile.  Now that the space situation is hopefully resolved, it’s time to focus on other matters.

  1. I know very few of you drive yourself to practice.  However, there are many of you who are in the Y way before your practice time, but when I call the practice to the pool deck, you mess around, take your sweet old time, and when your feet actually touch the deck, warm-ups are well underway.  Cut it out! Be on time for your practice! When you get to the Y, get ready to swim.  Stretch out while you wait for your practice to start.  Feel free to use the pool deck area to do this.
  2. DO NOT get in the water unless I tell you to.  See Sue’s Practice Rules.  Yes, a few of you are helping with lane lines, but no one else should be in until I have spoken to you as a group and told you your warm-up.  And remember – feet first entry for warm-ups. Violators will be doing massive amounts of push-ups!
  3. Come to practice ready to challenge and push yourself to go beyond your best effort.  This is the time to put in some serious hard work; make your send-offs, no breathing off your starts; no breathing in and out of your turns; streamline, streamline, streamline!  Focus on your technique; kick until it hurts.  Hard work and a positive “can do” attitude almost guarantee personal best times.  Let’s see just how fast you can go this season!
