Neptune News

Week of September 25, 2006

We are into week number three of the 2006-2007 season.  Hope everyone is enjoying being back in the water.  Yes, Alicia, it is breaststroke week!  Neptunes; come to practice and work hard so you will see the benefits come October 21, our first meet!

Fees and Forms – Remember to get your medical release forms filled out and turned into Coach Sue.  All fees should be paid at the front desk.

Swim caps – FYI – we will be offering personalized latex swim caps this year.  Cost is $14 for two caps which will have on it the Neptune logo as well as the swimmer’s last name.  Email me at suemellish@gmail.com and let me know if you’d like a set of caps. I already have about 30 swimmers on my list!  I will be turning the order in on Swim Suit Try-On Day, which is Thursday, October 5 in the Youth Lobby (by the Neptune Info Board).  Knabes will be here starting at 5:00 p.m. for you to try-on and buy team suits as well as fins (I encourage everyone to get a pair), goggles and caps.

What Would You Like to Swim? – Check your mailboxes and fill out your “What Would You Like to Swim” forms and get those into me ASAP.  Here is your chance to make your wishes heard!

Website – Be sure to visit our website often as I hope to post several new links this year.  I am writing up a “What You Need to Know About Swim Meets” document to help new swimmers know what to expect and how it all works.  I also want to have a High School Swimmers page where those that leave the Neptunes in November to swim with their high school team keep everyone informed of their swimming and so those who stay with the Neptunes until Sectionals, Districts and States have an area where we highlight their accomplishments as well.  I am also working on a Dryland Exercise page that will be updated monthly, giving swimmers ideas of how they can further improve their strength out of the pool.  Anyone who would like to help me with these pages (by providing info or websites to visit) email me and let me know.

Time Trials – I am tentatively scheduling Time Trials for Monday, October 9.  Just come to your regular practices on this day – no two hour long practices this night!  All 8 & Unders will swim one 25 of freestyle and a 25 of any other stroke they’d like.  Swimmers 9 & 10 and 11 & 12 will swim a 50 of free and a 50 of another stroke.  Swimmers 13 and older – a 50 free and a 100 of another stroke.  Time permitting, we can swim more events, but I will need at least this much information to do my line-up for the first meet. Again, any parents who can come to their child’s practice to time, it would be greatly appreciated!  If you have a stopwatch, bring it; otherwise and I will round up others to use.  Also, if you absolutely can not make it on Monday, come to practice on Thursday, October 12 and we will get times on you then, but please try to come Monday!
