Neptune News
Week of October 31, 2005
Here’s hoping everyone had a spooktacular Halloween! And yes, the coaches are expecting candy “donations!” Wow! Our picture day get-together was well attended. Thanks to everyone who came out and especially to those who chipped in with food items.
Second Meet News – Our second dual meet of the season will be this Saturday, November 5 at Mansfield. Our warm-ups are at 1:30 p.m. and the meet starts at 2:00 p.m. The meet will take place at the Ontario High School pool located at 457 Shelby-Ontario Rd, Mansfield, OH 44906. The Mansfield Coach wrote, “The pool is at the South East end of the school. There is a parking lot off the street. If parents park there, they will go through the two sets of double doors, then to their left. We will also have signs posted to help out. The pool has five lanes and you will have the odd lanes. We have a much smaller team than last year and I think we might only have 40-50 swimmers at the meet.” Neptune swimmers - By now, you should have told me if you could not attend this meet. Those who did not sign-off are expected to attend and are in the line-up.
Mailboxes – If you still need a mailbox, please let Coach Sue know and one will be made for you.
Swim Clinics – Coach Stacy will be posting information on the Neptunes’ Info Board concerning swim clinics in November. He pointed out to me that we would NOT be having one on the fourth Friday in November since that is the day after Thanksgiving!
Swim Videos – I am in the process of trying to set-up a time when swimmers ages 11 & Up could view our new stroke DVDs. I am thinking of choosing one night a week for a couple weeks, where we would show one DVD the hour before practice would begin (either at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. depending on the day), and then during practice, we would work on the techniques seen on the DVD. I hope to have this figured out by the next newsletter, so be sure to read it to see what’s going to happen!
Officials’ Clinic – Anyone interested in becoming a
YMCA swim official, please call Tom Nasci at 330-759-0223. He will be setting
up classes next week and needs to know who is interested in this clinic. Gordon
Grinham will be conducting the clinic, which will require two classes about two
weeks apart. The first class lasts about 2 ½ hours; the second class about 1½
hours. He hopes to schedule classes to coincide with team practices. Cost is
$25 and if you pass, you are entitled to work any YMCA meet up to and including
Nationals. All material is provided. The test is a take home test handed out
after the first session and returned to be discussed at the second session.
