August 22 was the first day on the job for the Y's
new Financial Development and Marketing Director,
Carol Potter. Carol will serve as a member of the Y's senior leadership team,
direct strategic financial development for the Central
and Davis Ys and Camp Fitch, foster partnerships to
advance the organization's mission, and implement
marketing plans to engage the community through increased visibility for
membership opportunities and healthy lifestyle programs.
When asked to comment on her first two days on the job,
she said, "It is such an honor to continue my development
career with one of our community's greatest organizations,
the YMCA of Youngstown. Before moving here in 1980, I
grew up with the Y culture, learning about its strength and
value through my father who was president of the Rock
Valley Y in Illinois at a time of great expansion. My family
attended campaign events and grand openings, witnessing
the changes that the Y culture brought to a community. I
am proud to now be a part of the Y movement!"
Carol brings to the YMCA of Youngstown over twenty-five
years of experience with the development and marketing
functions of diverse agencies and projects. As a well-known
advocate of the Mahoning Valley, Carol has established a
strong network of support from Mahoning County residents,
including regional officials, business leaders, foundations,
philanthropists and media representatives.
Carol currently serves as a director on the Board of the
Better Business Bureau and as a trustee for the Cardinal
Joint Fire District. Carol is a member of the 2003 class
of Leadership Mahoning Valley and the 2011 class of the
Mahoning Valley Local Government Leadership Academy.
Carol was nominated in 2003 for the Athena Award. She
is a member of the Junior League of Youngstown and the
Mahoning Valley Historical Society. She is past president of
the Boardman Civic Association and was a founding member
of the People for MetroParks.
Carol holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Ohio
Wesleyan University where she met her husband John.
Married for 36 years, they live in Canfield adjacent to the
MetroParks Bikeway. Her son, Jesse, graduated in June from
Drexel University in Philadelphia with a Masters in sports
management and now is employed by Drexel as assistant
director of NCAA compliance. Welcome Carol!
