Membership FAQs

  • Can I bring a guest?
  • YMCA members are always invited to bring friends. You'll receive three complimentary guest passes when you join (five for a family membership) and you may request a refill of those each year. Guests 16 or older must present a valid photo ID. Out-of-town guests residing outside the YMCA's service area have unlimited visits during their stay. But remember that we have the right to limit the sale of guest passes during the busy times of the year.

  • Can I use another Y if I'm traveling?
  • When you travel, it's likely that there's a YMCA nearby that will allow you to use their facilities while you're visiting. Make sure you ask us to set you up with an AWAY (Always Welcome At YMCAs) sticker on your membership card. While some Ys, especially those in high-tourist areas may charge a guest fee, the vast majority will allow you to use their facilities at no additional charge. Visit www.ymca.net to find a YMCA where you'll be traveling.

  • How can I register for a class?
  • Members and non-members alike can enjoy all the programs the YMCA offers. Registrations can be accomplished online, in person, by fax or by mail. (Sorry, no phone registrations accepted.) There is a $5 late fee assessed for registrations after the session has begun so make sure you register before the cut off date!

  • What happens if I have to drop out of a class?
  • We know that sometimes plans change and stuff happens that keeps you from attending a class for which you've signed up. We can refund the amount if you cancel before the class has begun, however, there is a $10 administration fee to do that. A better option is just to have the amount credited to your YMCA account. That way there's no administration fee and the money is waiting for you the next time you sign up for class.

  • Why is the minimum age for using the Fitness Center set at 14 years old?
  • There are many children that possess the knowledge and the maturity to use the equipment in the Fitness Center that are not yet 14. However, they are in the minority. The equipment is designed and sized for adults, which creates additional risk. Add to the fact that the room is already tight with adults, and equipment, especially at peak times of the day and peak times of the year. Watch as our new Youth Fitness Center is constructed. You will have the opportunity to use equipment that is way cooler than the stuff the adults have!

  • What constitutes a Family Membership?
  • A family membership consists of husband, wife and dependent children or adults who can be claimed on your income tax return.

  • Can I cancel my membership at any time?
  • The YMCA wants you to be fully satisfied with your membership. We don't make you sign a contract of any sort and will refund the balance of your membership dues should you decided to cancel. If you are on the bank draft, you must notify us in writing at least 30 days in advance. If you paid for the year in full, we will refund the balance of your membership minus a $10 administration fee. The only part of your membership that is non refundable is the joining fee.

  • You have lots of locker rooms. Which one do I use?
  • Adult men's and women's locker rooms are for adults 18 years of age or older. The youth locker rooms are used for boys and girls under 18 or adults with same sex children under the age of 18. The family locker rooms are to be used for moms and dads with opposite sex children. If you are using the adult locker rooms with your children you will be asked to move to the youth locker rooms.

  • Will the Y's insurance cover me if I get injured while I'm at the Y?
  • The YMCA does not carry medical insurance for members or guests. You will be responsible for medical costs associated with injuries incurred while using the Y or taking part in a YMCA program.

  • Can I have a birthday party?
  • The Davis Family YMCA does host birthday parties. You can contact Adele Taylor at 330-480-5656 ext 217 or email her at ataylor@youngstownymca.org for more information.

While we won't stop you from bringing in a cake, balloons and pizza to do your own thing, keep in mind that YMCA programming takes priority and might ruin your plans. If you do decide to invite guests, a guest fee applies for all guests and guests must be accompanied by a member to get access. A complete list of Birthday Party Guidelines is available at the Service Desk.

Incidentally, the Central Branch offers private swim parties
at an extremely reasonable rate. Contact Janice Grasso at 330-744-8411 ext. 125 for details.

  • Can I drop off my 7 year old for the day?
  • Children need to be 10 years or older to be at the facility without an adult. There's a 3-hour time limit for children ages 10-13.
